Ok, I’ve upgraded this site to WordPress 2.9-rare 
I thought I’d run the cutting edge development version on here to see how it goes. And maybe I’ll be able to help out with some bug reports. If you notice anything bizarre please let me know. 
The rest of our WordPress sites are running WordPress 2.8 or WordPress MU 2.7. So these sites should not have any major issues.
