Joomla and J Admin Mobile

As some may be aware, I recently migrated my websites from Wordpress to Joomla. This transition has gone extremely well over all.

I found myself lacking one thing though, the ability to manage the sites and post content (in a draft form) from my mobile devices.

Well, that problem has been solved with J Admin Mobile for Android.

After testing out the Lite version which only allowed one website to be managed and with a limited publishing ability I thought the NZD$12.96 I spent on the application was well worth it.

There are limitations though but I am currently implementing a simple work around for those. It would be nice to publish directly to K2 categories but at least I can get a 'draft' idea on the site in the Article manager in an unpublished 'draft' category which I can then copy / paste to a K2 category and edit back at my desk.

The iPhone app appears to have image publishing capabilities which is lacking in the android version, however this is a minor aspect, as I said, publishing and tiding up articles back at my desk is always the best option.

The user management is great for blocking unwanted spam accounts, you do have to delete them back at your desk. However that does remove the possibility of accidental user

The ability to add customers would be nice and maybe it's on its' way.

Overall I'm happy with the application and hope that the requests for K2 support arn't too far away, as with the image upload, It would be nice to be able to dump an image my server from in the feild.

If you are in need of mobile site management I highly recommend the application, it is available for both Android and iPhone.

The Joomla xmlrpc extension was a simple installation via the Joomla 1.7 extension manager and required no further configuration to get it up and running. I have also installed the extension on my Joomla 2.5 beta 1 test site and there appear to be no adverse effects.

The only thing I can't get working, is the "Global Config", every time I try and load it no matter whether on Joomla 1.7 or 2.5 I get a Server Error reporting that I don't have access to global configuration. Not sure if this is a compatability issue with Joomla 1.7/2.5. Unfortunately I am unable to test against Joomla 1.5 or 1.6.

J Admin Mobile is available from http://www.covertapps.com/jam, from there you can download the Android, iPhone app and the Joomla Component.

I highly recommend you try the lite version but I'm sure like me you'll find the app more than suitable for mobile site management.

Following a twitter discussion with @covertapps I can say the Global Configuration issue has been sorted.

I had to change the permission on the component from Inherited (Allowed) to simply Allowed and I was able to get access to the Global Configuration on both Joomla 1.7 and 2.5beta1
