Been a hectic week. ANZAC day is coming up on Sunday 25th April so spare a thought for those fallen soldiers. On that topic, Red poppy or white poppy? While I don’t disagree with the whole white poppy campaign, I think the timing was poor, being so close to the Red Poppy Appeal day.

I’m contemplating bringing in a Roku from the U.S, can anyone tell me if the Roku set top box will work in NZ?

XTN-2010-04-17 #13 Trialling Bilbo Blogging Client

This week, I’m trialling a new desktop blogging client called Bilbo. A KDE application for Linux it works much in the same way as Windows Live Writer, although image manipulation / positioning was much easier in WLW. However I would have to say, if your looking for a WYSIWYG blog client for Linux, Bilbo Blogger might just fulfill your needs.

Well, school holidays are technically over. The kids go back to school on Monday so things should settle down again with the recording schedule.

I really can’t ask for a better Autumn day, we have wall to wall blue sky and a very light breeze which is not cold. It’s got to be a balmy 18-19 degrees out side. Mother nature really has turned it on for us today and it looks like this weather is going to last for the weekend.

Call me cynical, but who cares if a 2 1/2 year old can push pretty icons on the iPad. I’m sure my cat can do the same thing. I am so over hearing about the iPad. Yes, it may have it’s use for a minority of people. Personally I can’t justify spending over NZD$1000 on something I can’t pull apart and upgrade the internals on. Surely I am not alone here.

Yes, it’s a Easter which means it’s a public holiday, but the show must go on. The show is a couple of days late, which I apologise for. Friday was a bit of a mess unfortunately. I was all set to record and the day progressively turned to custard.

We’ve had a good easter weekend, My parents came down from Auckland on their VL1500 Suzuki Boulevard. So it was great to see them again. I got to go for a cruise around a car park on the bike (Only allowed on the Road with upto 250cc at the moment) it was great to have a quick ride around on the 1500cc though.

Winter is in the air. The temperatures are definitely not as warm as they were a few weeks ago, although I have to admit the night time temperature is a lot more comfortable at the moment. I do like this time of the year, not to hot and not too cold. But I do prefer summer over winter.

XTN-2010-03-19 #9 Recording on Linux

Been a very exciting and busy time around here this past week, as you may have seen in a recent post I made. I now have Ubuntu Linux installed accross the systems here in the studio. A bit of a rough start to this weeks show, which I appologise for. I was a little nervous about this being the first recording being done entirely on Linux. But I had nothing to fear, everything went well.

So far, I’m only having a problem finding a decent Twitter client. I’ve heard Tweetdeck under Linux is buggy and unstable. Currently I’m using Twitux, which in itself is ok but does lack some basic functionality, like clickable links. So if you can recommend a good desktop twitter client for Linux please let me know.

Wow, where did the past week go. Seems to be a common feeling for me now, weeks just fly by. Fortunately the earthquake in Chile last weekend didn’t eventuate into anything too much here in NZ. We had a few surges and lots of people ignoring the warnings not to go down to the beach etc. My thoughts go out to those who were effected in the event.

Yes, there are only 2 days left of Summer here in New Zealand. Been pretty fortunate the last few days have been wall to wall blue sky. Now this is what summer is all about.

Just read an article over on Crunchgear regarding the birthday of the BBS (Bulletin Board System) Bought back a lot of fond memories of the late 80’s early 90’s for me

Back before we had the Internet on the scale we do today, tying up the phone line for hours on end dialled in to a BBS waiting for 60 minutes to download a 1meg .zip file on a 2400baud modem on an old Amstrad PC1512 with monochrome graphics (if you could call it “graphics”) and a 20meg hard drive with a 5.25” floppy drive

Had an unfortunate mishap with the car last Sunday, turns out we broke a rocker. Not sure how we managed that but will be with out a car for a few weeks I think. Although, I have to say it hasn’t been too bad not having the car

I seriously need to get the air flow in the studio sorted out, been very hot and muggy which in turn does not make for a pleasant or comfortable situation.
