He also stated that Alcatel-Lucent had been ‘Put on notice’ however when asked what that meant the question was not really answered.

It appears that, while Alcatel-Lucent has been put on notice. No dead lines were given to Alcatel-Lucent in regards to a definite date in which the issues needed to be fixed. This would point to there not being any repercussions if a speedy solution to the network problems was not found.

Paul Reynolds did state that the resignation of CTO, Frank Mount was in direct response to the XT network failures. He was unable to comment, regarding the resignation of Alcatel-Lucent NZ CEO Steve Lowe or whether Steve resigned in response to the XT network issues.

Telecom stated that if customers wished to break their contracts with the company, it would be dealt with on a per customer basis.

Paul Reynolds stated that Telecom customers, were the ones to decide if the XT network and Telecom has had it’s last chance as far as the XT network was concerned.

No guarantees have been given that the network would not fail again. Reynolds denied that only having the two RNCs’ played a role in the network outages. When questioned as to Vodafone having six in NZ, Reynolds said the two were sufficient based on the number of customers. However he says the company has plans to have at least another four RNCs in place by the end of the year.

Having spent the past few hours just playing around with Google Buzz, my personal impression is not great.

Google Buzz could be useful if all of your friends use Gmail, although I don’t like the idea of having “Buzz updates” mixed in with all my incoming emails. Although it would be simple enough to create a filter to move them to another folder or remove them altogether. If you happen to be following a few hundred people it could very easily get to the point where you miss seeing email in your Inbox.

Will Google Buzz replace Facebook or Twitter? Not for me it won’t. At least not at this stage. primarily the reason being, not all of my friends use Gmail and my email is handled by a client so I tend not to use the web interface.

While I wouldn’t consider my short Google Buzz experience to be a bad one, I can’t see it being my primary social network of choice when everything is so engrained in either Facebook or Twitter. Adoption rates will play a big part in, if or when I move primarily to Google Buzz.

For me, the foreseeable future still lies with Facebook and Twitter for connecting with friends.

If you have Google Buzz, you can follow me here, while it will be irregularly updated I will leave it active

As some of you may be aware, I’m keen to see the PogoPlug in New Zealand. From the point of view I’d like to get one as I feel it would be a great addition to my network. In fact I think it’d make a great addition to any network. Especially for business users who use cloud storage services but would prefer to have local access to shared files.

In a twitter conversation I asked @pogoplug when this would be available in New Zealand, It’s going to be on sale in the UK as of 15th February 2010.

The answer I got back was

@kimmynz we want to put Pogoplug in NZ! I can’t say exactly when but we’re working on it…

So, all of you who are keen to see the PogoPlug in NZ. It’s coming. Unfortunately I can’t say when. I will endeavour to keep a close eye on anything coming out of PogoPlug and keep you informed of any release date information.

What is a PogoPlug?

The Pogoplug connects your USB drive to the Internet so you can easily share and access your files from anywhere.

The Pogoplug is the perfect accessory to your connected life. Imagine accessing all your files and media at home from any laptop or desktop computer, anywhere in the world, or sharing this content with friends and family without having to upload. There’s even an iPhone application so you can always “phone home” to get your files!

If you want more information on what the PogoPlug is and what it can do, Check out http://www.pogoplug.com

I haven’t been able to find an official press release outlining any launch dates, but it’ll be interesting to see their 3G pricing structure.

Is anyone from 2 Degrees Mobile willing to provide further information?

The work around for this is simple enough to do, but must be done after each update to OpenOffice.org.

Under Fedora you need to edit /usr/lib/openoffice.org/program/soffice this is a bash script which launches the appropriate OpenOffice.org application. and locate the following on lines 42-44

# file locking now enabled by default
SAL_ENABLE_FILE_LOCKING=1
export SAL_ENABLE_FILE_LOCKING

Simply put a # infront of lines 43 and 44 so it looks like

# file locking now enabled by default
#SAL_ENABLE_FILE_LOCKING=1
#export SAL_ENABLE_FILE_LOCKING

Save your changes. This will enable saving and editing documents on NFS filesystems.
